Of course, the best part of taking photographs in the winter is resting with a large mug of something delicious and hot after your photographic journey.
I often refer to street photography as a cinematic glimpse into a never-ending maze of pattern recognition. Once you are able to ﬁnd the backdrop or set, the key is to wait for the star of the scene to show up and make the shot. This happens to be one of my favorite sections of St. Mark’s Place in Lower Manhattan (above). I have always been intrigued with how the eye is pulled from the interior of the restaurant on the lower-right, counter-clockwise up toward the giant cow sculpture, and around past the neon tattoo parlor signs toward the tree that frames the entire scene.
Every ﬁgment of an artist’s imagination, previously bound to the conﬁnes of a wall, would ﬁnally get to roam the city streets with abandon. While reality is never quite as vivid as my imagination, the magic of photography keeps these sorts of dreams alive.
